Vitamin D3, produced when the body is exposed to the sun, plays a role in repairing damage caused by cardiovascular disease. This is the result of a study conducted by researchers in Ohio.
France is currently experiencing very little sunshine. Lots of rain, clouds, cold weather: this weather has consequences on our morale but also on our health. In fact, exposure to the sun can fill up with vitamin D, which allows calcium to bind to the bones. This is not the only benefit of the sun on our body. Vitamin D3 is made by the body when the skin is exposed to sunlight. Researchers from the University of Ohio, in the United States, show that this vitamin makes it possible to prevent, even to cure the damage caused to the body by cardiovascular diseases such as diabetes, hypertension or atherosclerosis. The results have been published in the International Journal of Nanomedicine.
A unique research method
One of the main authors of this research is Dr. Tadeusz Malinksi. He explains that “in recent years, many hospital executives have recognized that many patients who have had a heart attack are deficient in vitamin D3. This does not mean that it is this deficiency that causes the heart attack, but that it increases the risk of having one “. This professor’s team has developed an innovative research technique that consists of measuring nanosensors, particles 1000 times finer than a hair. This allowed them to measure the effects of vitamin D3 on endothelial cells. They are a necessary component of the cardiovascular system.
A vitamin available as a food supplement
Research shows that vitamin D3 stimulates the production of nitric oxide, a molecule that is involved in the regulation of blood pressure and prevents the formation of blood clots. Scientists also conclude that this vitamin helps repair the body from damage caused by certain cardiovascular diseases: “It is a very inexpensive solution to cure the cardiovascular system. We do not have to make a new drug. We do it. ‘have already,’ says Professor Malinski.
When it is difficult to be exposed to the sun, it is possible to provide vitamin D3 through food supplements and by consuming foods that contain it, such as fatty fish, eggs or butter.
