Gigi Hadid has an autoimmune disease, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, she told reporters.
In a world of beauty, youth and visual perfection, talking about sick bodies that are damaged is not an easy thing. Gigi Hadid decided to do it, despite everything. In the pages of the magazine She, the young model of American origin who distinguished herself during the last Victoria’s Secret fashion show opened up about the autoimmune disease from which she is suffering, like her mother.
Because this year, her “metabolism has changed wildly,” she says. “I have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. It’s thyroid disease. I’ve been on medication for this for two years, so for the Victoria’s Secret show, I didn’t want to lose any more weight. I just want to have muscles in the right places, and if my butt could be a little rounder, that would be good ”.
Hypothyroidism
Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, also called chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, is an autoimmune condition. Most of the time, it results in hypothyroidism, that is to say a drop in the amount of thyroid hormones in the blood. It mainly affects women.
Among the symptoms, Hashimoto’s disease can be manifested by great fatigue, weight gain, a puffy face, joint pain, mood disorders … The pathology can gradually lead to the destruction of thyroid cells, although this development is not systematic.
Gigi Hadid is planning to take a holiday break away from social media. “I will take a month away from social networks during the New Year. I will not delete my account, I will just remove the application from my phone,” she said, assuring that she would come back. The one who has “never taken sick leave” during her brilliant career will continue to work, however.
