Blue tongue disease continues to progress in France. Bluetongue has been identified in 13 departments. This disease, which does not affect humans, leads to restrictions on the movement of livestock in 42 departments.
Significant weight loss, inflammation of the mucous membranes, blueness of the tongue, respiratory problems, fever: these are the main symptoms of bluetongue. While the disease is not fatal in cattle, it can affect milk production and reproduction.
At the last assessment, 90 infectious foci were detected. 3 new departments – Aveyron, Corrèze and Haute-Loire – are added to the list of affected areas. The farms hardest hit by the disease are in Allier (31 cases) and Puy-de-Dôme (28 cases). But the Creuse, the Loire, the Nièvre, the Saône-et-Loire see the progression continue. Only three departments have managed to stabilize their number of cases: Cher, Indre and Loiret.
