With fewer cylinders but faithful to gasoline, unlike the competition, the Mercedes-AMG Class C43 was found in southern Spain. Not sectarian, she advocates downsizing and light hybridization. Find out what is hidden under its camouflage.
Presented in March 2021, the fifth generation of the Mercedes C-Class (type 206) is slowly gaining momentum. At the launch, last June, the offer logically focused on the core range in gasoline as in diesel with light hybridization. Plug-in hybrids will complete the catalog later, like the sporty AMG variants.

The entry level of the latter, The Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic, was flushed out by our spy photographers in the middle of a tune-up session on the Andalusian roads. Carefully concealed under a thick layer of stickers with a psychedelic pattern, it polishes its development. As this new generation of premium family sedan was officially unveiled last spring, the future AMG version does not need to hide its headlights and lights. The light signature will be unchanged.

A four-cylinder for the Mercedes-AMG C43

Unlike the Audi S4, whose 347 hp V6 unit runs on diesel, the Mercedes C43 AMG will remain true to gasoline. Nevertheless it will reduce the sails. On the one hand, it will abandon the V6 architecture in favor of a 2.0 turbo four-cylinder engine. On the other hand, she will be helped by the electricity fairy via 48 volt mild hybridization. It thus gives free rein to the BMW M340i xDrive, whose in-line six-cylinder petrol engine delivers 374 hp.

Boosted by a large electric turbocharger, the power will remain the same: 390 hp, but an “overboost” function will temporarily cross the symbolic bar of 400 hp. This coupling will be supported by a 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic gearbox and by the 4Matic all-wheel drive. The Mercedes-AMG C43 Class will arrive in dealerships during the first half of 2022.
