Social networks have become the scene of the most absurd challenges. The Shell on challenge, the latest, consists of filming yourself eating food with your packaging. For example a chocolate bar with the plastic wrapping or a fruit with its skin. On Twitter, Instagram and or Snapchat, some people bite into a banana on the skin and swallow it, not without making a mine of disgust. Others risk eating a cake without removing the plastic wrap.
Health professionals warn against this kind of challenge. In addition to the fact that plastic packaging has never been edible, it may contain substances toxic to health such as bisphenol A (legally prohibited in France since 2015), a endocrine disruptor proven, or allergenic compounds.
Composition is not the only problem. Ingestion of packaging may present a choking hazard. So many reasons to advise against this challenge.
Challenges in bad taste
The Shell on challenge is added to the long list of insane challenges that abound on the networks, entertaining some and dividing others. Last March, the Cheese challenge, had sparked controversy. The challenge, from the United States, was to send a slice of cheddar cheese over a baby’s face. A traumatic gesture for the child, was indignant a child psychiatrist.
