Irish researchers have developed a compound that releases aromas on contact with perspiration.
Fight the bad smell of sweat halos! This is the challenge that Irish researchers have taken on in order to come to the aid of the people concerned a few months before the summer. A mission that they seem to have succeeded according to the results of their work published a few days ago in the newspaper Chemical Communications.
The “perfumed ionic liquid”
These three researchers from Queen’s University (Belfast) say they have invented a perfume that releases a quantity of aromas depending on the humidity to which it is exposed. The team combined the components of the perfume with “ionic liquid”.
This denier is a cocktail of salts in suspension (in a solvent) which can melt at room temperature. In fact, on contact with the water contained in perspiration, the salty liquid releases the scented flagrance. And in the end, the more perspiration, the stronger the perfume. The invention is currently called “perfumed ionic liquid”.
Better yet, this product would also prevent a potentially unpleasant sweat-fragrance mixture for sensitive noses. Experts say that their product has the power to neutralize bad odors from perspiration.
“Thiol, the organic compound responsible for the fragrances, is naturally attracted by the ionic liquid to which it attaches, thus losing its harmful power. “The suction properties of the ionic liquid therefore have the consequence of making perspiration almost odorless,” the team wrote in its publication.
For Dr. Nimal Gunaratne, author of the work, “this new method is a fantastic breakthrough. The perfume has great commercial potential, but could also be useful in other scientific fields in relation to the gradual release of certain substances. “
