Half of the Plus readers (55 percent) go directly to the corona test street if they have mild symptoms such as a runny nose or cough. This is evident from a poll among more than 2,600 readers on this site. Nationally, only one in eight people is prepared to do so, according to a study by the RIVM and the GGD last week.
After the publication of the research of RIVM and the GGD the national willingness to test would have increased slightly, but it is not known by exactly what percentage.
According to experts, it is crucial that people with mild complaints go directly to the test street. If that doesn’t happen, they say the virus will continue to spread.
To contaminate
Plus reader Truus would be tested immediately, writes them on our Facebook page. “I wouldn’t like to infect anyone else.” Anke agrees. “Although you are not bothered by these symptoms yourself, you can infect someone else who may become much sicker. I don’t want that on my conscience.”
Unreachable
An almost as large proportion of Plus readers (45 percent) are unwilling to undergo a corona test in the event of mild complaints. Various arguments are discussed, such as the test locations that are unreachable for some readers. “I don’t have a car and I don’t think it’s possible to travel by public transport if you suspect you are infected,” writes Plus Reader Marij on this site. “The test station is too far for me to cycle.”
Hay fever
Many other Plus readers find it difficult to recognize the symptoms. For example, they say they have suffered from hay fever, COPD or an allergy to particulate matter for years. The symptoms are similar to those of Covid-19: a runny nose, stuffiness and coughing. Plus reader Jan therefore says: “I would only get tested if I also had a fever, not just with a mild cold.”
