The 30th Virades of Hope, the solidarity day organized by the association “Vaincre la cysticiscidose”, are taking place this Sunday throughout France.
On Sunday September 28, the 30th edition of Virades de l’Espoir will be celebrated throughout 450 events throughout France. This event was created on the initiative of the association “Vaincre la Mucoviscidose”. In 30 years, the Virades have raised 106 million euros for patients and research.
For 30 years, the Virades have been based on the same principle: “give life to those who lack it”. Everyone can make a physical effort to their measure by bringing one or more donations collected from their family or loved ones. Walking, running, cycling, throwing balloons, according to the association. An effort that counts since nearly 50% of the association’s annual budget is collected during the Virades de l’Espoir.
As recalled The Doctor’s Daily, last year, the Virades brought in 5.2 million euros which made it possible to finance 72 research projects (2.8 million euros) and 96 jobs and projects in the 50 healthcare centers and transplantation to the tune of 1.5 million euros.
Cystic fibrosis is a fatal genetic disease that causes mucus to thicken, leading to lung infections and digestive disorders. According to the association “To overcome cystic fibrosis”, 6,800 people are affected in France. Although there is no cure to date, life expectancy at birth has increased from 7 years in 1965 to 50 years today, thanks to advances in research.
In France, 200 children are born each year with cystic fibrosis, an average of 1 in 4,500 newborns.
