One in 10 French people already suffers from a brain disease, and the number of patients could be multiplied by three by 2050. “It is a global epidemic and it is only getting worse. If we look at the future, we let’s see that the number of elderly people will increase dramatically “recently declared Marc Wortmann, Executive Director of Alzheimer Disease International at the G8 dedicated to Alzheimer’s disease.
The objective of this Brain Week, organized from March 10 to 16, is therefore to draw the general public’s attention to the field of neuroscience, and to appeal to its generosity through the Neurodon.
Brain: what is the Neurodon for
Unraveling the mysteries of the brain, understanding its development, functions and pathologies, designing the keys to overcoming its diseases, these are the objectives pursued by the Federation for Research on the Brain (FRC). Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, multiple sclerosis: neurological pathologies of the brain (to which we must add psychiatric illnesses) are more and more talked about but no “Brain Plan” at the image of a Cancer Plan, has not yet seen the light of day.
In the meantime, the FRC is taking advantage of Brain Week to organize the Neurodon, a campaign intended to raise funds for research. Thanks to that collection campaign, nearly 15 million euros have already been collected since the creation of the FRC and 200 research projects have thus been funded.
