The sexual practices of young people between the ages of sixteen and twenty-four have evolved, according to a British study which has just been published in the Journal of Adolescents Health.
The age of first intercourse does not change
Since 1990, the survey has been carried out every ten years and consists of interviewing approximately 45,000 people. ” We want inform young people as much as possible so that they can maximize their well-being from the start of their sexual life Says Ruth Lewis, lead author of the study.
The study which has just appeared in the magazine addressed to young people, Journal of Adolescents Health, establishes several observations on sexual practices and in particular that of age of first intercourse among young people aged sixteen to twenty-four. In thirty years, he has not changed and remains at 16 years old. The first kiss doesn’t change either. It is always at 14 years old on average that we kiss for the first time.
What are the main changes?
If the age of the first report does not change, the practices are more varied than thirty years ago. Indeed, sodomy and fellatio, which were rather rare practices in 1990, have already been tested by 25% of men and 20% of women. Vaginal intercourse remains the norm, but anal and oral sex are becoming common among heterosexual people, especially among 16-18 year olds.
The health recommendations to be followed are therefore no longer quite the same, which is why the authors of the study are raising the alarm. They want the public authorities to adapt their prevention discourse : ” As sex education programs are being updated, it is crucial to monitor current trends in adolescent sexual practices, so that they are responsive to these realities. », Concludes Ruth Lewis.
