During the night of Thursday to Friday, 21 children were seized with nausea and vomiting. All were in summer camp at the Klérou campsite in a small town in Brittany.
A scenario similar to that which occurred on Wednesday in the Midi-Pyrénées region took place in the Finistère region. Children from Clamecy (58) participating in a summer camp were victims of nausea and vomiting during the night from Thursday to Friday. A total of 21 children residing in the Kérou campsite suffered from stomach aches, nausea and vomiting.
According to a press release from the Brittany Regional Health Agency (ARS), 7 of them were placed in an observation check-up at the Lorient hospital, including 4 who were discharged at the beginning of the afternoon and already on their way. for the campsite where the rest of the colony awaits them. Supervising adults were also victims of these symptoms and had to consult doctors. The ARS is currently carrying out an epidemiological investigation to determine the nature of the virus, even though the agency strongly suspects viral gastroenteritis.
A great classic
It is difficult not to make the link between the Breton summer camp and that of Ascou (Ariège). Yet, it is not uncommon to witness an outbreak of gastroenteritis, which is mainly transmitted through dirty hands, water and food. Especially in the event of a collective gathering, as is the case with the summer camp. For the specialist in infectious diseases working at the CHU of Grenoble Jean-Paul Stahl, it is “a great classic”. The ARS is still waiting for the results of the investigation to confirm this hypothesis. The term gastroenteritis designates a multitude of conditions that can be caused by many viruses, bacteria or other microorganisms (such as amoeba). The intensity and duration of symptoms vary depending on the cause.
