In Brittany, a village produced a fake newscast to recruit its future general practitioner. Without a practitioner for months, the inhabitants have opted for an original and humorous initiative.
1,300 inhabitants, a doctor’s office… and not a doctor on the horizon. Since the retirement of Dr Plancke, the municipality of Limerzel (Morbihan) is mobilizing to find a replacement for the last health professional in the village. Their initiative is original to say the least: a short film, broadcast on the Internet, to recruit the successor. In this corner of Brittany it is not “Desperately seeking a doctor” but rather humor that prevails. As proof, this true-false JT which relates the misadventures of the citizens.
In search of the perfect doctor
” Single stethoscope looking for doctor loving life and dating. “Appropriating the codes of speed dating, the appeal of the Limerzelais wants to be offbeat and attractive. On May 24, the town hall called on its fellow citizens to participate in the filming of the fictitious JT. Improvised journalists draw a flattering portrait of a village located in “a region renowned for its high rate of sunshine” and its inhabitants welcome the future doctor.
In addition to playing the tourist offices, the offbeat JT shows – not without humor – the damage of a life without a doctor: the plasterer is in charge of fitting splints and plasters, the sutures are made with large knitting needles. -mother, the mechanic is responsible for reviving patients after a stroke. And for diseases, the Internet makes the diagnosis. A situation, certainly, exaggerated, but which highlights the crying lack of practitioner in the village. Journalists for a day are also real estate agents: a “brand new practice” awaits the future doctor, and a liberal nurse has already been installed there for several months. There are also called a physiotherapist and a dentist. But the most urgent: a general practitioner.

Designed and edited by the Quintésis agency, with the support of the Communauté de Communes du Pays de Questembert, the short film is now widely distributed: on the various video platforms, via forums, the regional and national councils of the Order of physicians… but also directly sent by email to young graduates or experienced physicians (over 50) who work in urban areas and may wish to move. A success since after seven days of broadcasting, two professionals came forward to the town hall of Limerzel.
A proven method
To encourage doctors to settle in rural areas, initiatives have been multiplying recently. Last October, the Saône-et-Loire launched installeunmedecin.com, a site claimed to be “schoolboy” which rode the wave of online dating. The General Council also played the card of the tourist office and addressed a large panel of possible doctors: medical students, graduate doctors, communities. Launched in October, the system has met with undeniable success: in 2 months, 4 scholarships have been awarded and 7 trainees – including one in physiotherapy – have received accommodation and travel assistance. The graduates also took advantage of this original campaign: 2 municipalities received aid to build, rehabilitate or extend premises, 3 general practitioners received an installation check, and a union was able to use a recruitment firm. .
