One of the rare Peugeot 505 transformed into a double-cabin pick-up by Gruau will be offered for auction on September 19 by Aguttes. The utility sports a historic livery since its recent restoration. It is estimated at more than € 20,000.
When a sedan is transformed into a pick-up, it is generally from its central uprights that its roof is cut and its rear part rearranged so that a tipper is installed in place of the trunk and the rear seat. At Peugeot, the 504 was notably entitled to such treatment signed Dangel. The competitor Gruau opted for another solution and built a few double-cab pick-ups, first on the basis of 504 but also, subsequently, on the basis of 505 Break. Due to the lack of homologation as a utility in France, this variant did not last long. Only six copies were sold according to Aguttes, who will offer one of them at auction.

An open-trunk sedan
With its four doors and standard ride height, the 505 Pick-up Gruau retains the saloon silhouette seen in profile. The bucket, which measures 1.37 m by 1.44 m and offers a payload of 675 kg, is surrounded by chrome bars. The vertical tail lights of the original 505 Estate have been retained. The passenger compartment has five seats, and the bulkhead that separates it from the dumpster is glazed. Under the hood, there is a 2.5 diesel engine.
Restored for a historic look
The 1985 copy which will be on sale has its French registration certificate and has recently been restored. It wears the white livery with blue and red stripes of the car with which Gruau presented its pick-up in 1984. The only departure from the appearance of the advertised vehicle: the presence of double lights on a black background giving the car an allure more sporty. Biton blue upholstery like door panels have been redone, and the engine has been overhauled. An optional vintage hard bed cover is supplied with the car. This atypical lion pick-up is estimated between 20,000 and 30,000 €. It is one of the lots of L’Aventure Peugeot Citroën DS which will go on sale on September 19, 2021 at the Citroën Conservatory of Aulnay-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis), alongside other nuggets such as two 2CV ” new »never registered.
