Every summer, the sun, the wind and swimming in the sea or in a swimming pool represent a dangerous equation for the hair fiber, which can be damaged and become “unmanageable”. Indeed, the hair reacts to UVA and UVB rays, which causes oxidation of the pigment (a problem for colored hair) and weakening of the keratin. Result : the hair is very dry. The other aggressors that are wind, salt or chlorine also cause damage which can be important.
Providing good sun protection during the holidays is good. Guaranteeing ideally nourished and maintained hair a few weeks beforehand is even better! To do this, simply follow our schedule to the letter, containing advice and tips from hair beauty professionals, hairdressers and colorists.
With a treatment
Holidays are not easy for hair. The idea is therefore to take good care of them before departure, to arm them against all the attacks they are going to suffer.

Good hair health depends first and foremost on a healthy scalp. Each week, a clay-based hair mask helps to cleanse, regenerate and revive the cellular activity of the scalp, but also to cleanse and rehydrate the lengths. In great shape, the hair regains maximum shine and volume. The good solution ? The easiest way is to use a ready-to-use mask in the form of a mixture of clays and essential oils suitable for each type of hair. If necessary, dilute with water in a bowl to obtain a creamy consistency, easier to apply. It takes 150 ml of product for an application on medium-length hair. Brush and lightly moisten the hair. With your fingers, take the dough to deposit it in a medium layer, line by line. Then apply to the lengths. Massage the scalp with the fingertips for a few minutes. Then apply a plastic film and leave on for 20 minutes, but no more.

To repair your hair after a day of sunshine, bet on monoi or shea butter. Packed with essential fatty acids and antioxidant vitamins, they can be used on both skin and hair. Apply a dab of product to your damp hair, before shampooing, massage the lengths for a few minutes, then rinse and wash as usual.
With a color that reacts well to sun and baths
The sun always brightens the color, whether natural or artificial. A beautiful patina at the end of the holidays depends on the state of health of the hair as well as on the quality of the coloring that is used, knowing that its pigments are more fragile than the natural pigments of the hair.

In the salon or at home, color is ideally renewed a few days before leaving on vacation. It will last longer, despite repeated sea or pool bathing and shampooing. The good solution ? Prefer a semi-permanent coloring, called “tone on tone”, much less aggressive for the fiber than an oxidation coloring, which always weakens the hair, even the best groomed. It is applied first to the roots then dissolves, the last ten minutes, over the lengths, to ensure a more uniform result once in the sun. If you have played the card of plant coloring all year round, good news, it oxidizes very little in the sun and will keep up well in spite of the wind, the sea or the swimming pool. If you want to achieve a balayage sublimated by the effect of the sun, take care to do it a little darker than usual, that is to say a tone below, so that the color does not lighten too much. afterwards. On the other hand, avoid making a discoloration, at the risk of finding yourself under the sun with straw on your head. Ultra-sensitized, a platinum blonde is no longer armed to withstand UV rays, the sea or the swimming pool. The parade ? Use a very clear gloss that combines care and direct pigments to infuse shine.

Who says sea bathing says multiplication of shampoos. To revive the color and limit the loss of pigments, carry a repigmenting hair balm in your luggage, which envelops the hair in pigments on the surface. This can also be used as a detangling treatment during the holidays.
With a practical fit
During the holidays, you don’t necessarily want to spend too much time brushing your hair or doing sophisticated hairstyles. If the hair has been cut regularly, the original cut must have evolved well.

In fact, there is no hard and fast rule. Depending on the condition of the hair before leaving, we can cut or not! When the hair is damaged, it is best to cut the ends to prevent the split ends from fraying. And it will then be necessary to cut them much more in September, which is recommended in all cases at the start of the school year. The good solution ? Cut a few centimeters, layered or tapered, the hair immediately regains volume, line and style. They therefore require little maintenance and dry in the open air. But keep your beautiful lengths, in order to tie them more easily in a bun, bun or ponytail, more practical for swimming and sheltering them under a hat.

For impeccable styling without using a blow dryer, apply a leave-in moisturizer to your towel-dried hair, slick it back with a brush, then tie it into a ponytail with a fabric elastic. Release your hair as soon as it is dry. Other option: braids, to get pretty waves.
What about my keratin straightening?
For a perfectly mastered hairstyle during the holidays, make an appointment with the hairdresser one week before departure. As smoothing is also a deep treatment for the hair, it will be adorned, provided the lengths are well protected with a hair oil before each swim, salt being the number 1 enemy of keratin.
