Until now, this “two-day after pill” which prevents unwanted pregnancy for up to 5 days after intercourse, could only be dispensed with a doctor’s prescription. What allowed him to be reimbursed at 65% by health insurance. Since today, it is therefore possible to obtain it without a prescription but in this case it will not be reimbursed. Incidentally, the laboratory that markets it has announced a drop in its price: it goes from € 23.59 to € 19.70.
EllaOne is intended for women who do not want to get pregnant after unprotected sex or if their contraceptive method has failed (forgetting the pill in time, if the condom has torn, slipped or came off or was forgotten…). It remains effective 5 days after reportunprotected sex while the morning-after pill (Norvelo) must be taken within the first 12 hours, at the latest within three days of intercourse.
