November 18, 2008 – Three of the 17 associations of massage therapists in Quebec have decided to come together in order to better supervise their practice and provide better service to the population. With its 5,000 members, Mon Réseau Plus presents itself as “the largest association of massage therapists in Quebec”.
“We want to standardize and secure the practice of massage therapy for the population. We have set up a code of ethics and a disciplinary structure that includes professional inspection, that is to say that we will visit and advise our members on their practice to make it safe for the population, ”says Martin. Vallée, director of Mon Réseau Plus.
The structure of Mon Réseau Plus is similar to that of the Fédération québécoise des massothérapeutes (FQM) which also has a code of ethics and a disciplinary procedure to protect the public. The FQM has 4,500 members.
Mon Réseau Plus was born from the merger of the Association of Massage Therapists and Orthotherapists of Canada (AMOC), the Corporation of Associated Massage Therapists (CMA) and the Corporation of Massage Therapists and Other Practitioners in Body Approaches (CMAPPAC). All members have training in massage therapy and training in a specialty, either in orthotherapy, physiotherapy or naturopathy.
The ultimate goal of the director of Réseau Plus would be to form a single association in Quebec. “My Réseau Plus is already a step towards the future, that is to say that there are three associations out of the 17 which have decided to abandon their color and become just one. This allows people who need the services of a massage therapist to have a place to call and a website to refer, ”says Martin Vallée.
