The announcement, long awaited by people with disabilities and their families, was made through a video published on the Tiktok account of the President of the Republic this February 6, 2025. The full reimbursement of the wheelchairs by the Social Security will be effective from December 1st.

“As of tomorrow, the list of all the armchairs that will be taken care of will be released on Legifrance”explains Emmanuel Macron in his video published this Thursday, ensuring that the latter is “Very wide”. The equipment on the list will be reimbursed 100 % from December 1, 2025. The text which allows to deploy this system, was adopted unanimously by the National Assembly last December. Until now, financing these equipment could be a real headache for people with reduced mobility. Indeed, a manual can cost up to 10,000 euros, an electric up to 50,000 euros while reimbursements for health insurance are respectively 600 euros and 5,200 euros maximum. According to associations, the rest at the expense for people was on average 5,500 euros.

Refund of armchairs: better support para-athletes and specific situations
“For more specific armchairs depending on the nature of disability” Or “For para-athletes and young people wishing to play sports”full care will also be possible ensures the President of the Republic. One condition, however: having a prior social security agreement on the advice of a doctor.

This announcement was well received by associations.
