WhatsApp is the most popular smartphone app for messaging. But did you know that you can also use WhatsApp on your PC? That works a lot easier.
In the first part of this article you can read how to install WhatsApp on your computer and how to send a message with it. In this second part you will see that you can do even more with WhatsApp on your PC. Like sending photos and videos.
Launch WhatsApp on your PC
Using WhatsApp on your PC after shutting it down before is very easy. You start WhatsApp the same as you start all other programs on your computer. Just make sure your smartphone is turned on and connected to the internet. Making the connection is automatic.
Send photos and videos
Just like with WhatsApp on your smartphone, you can also send photos and videos with WhatsApp on your PC. This is useful if, for example, you have edited photos and videos on your computer. You don’t have to put them back on your smartphone first to be able to send them.
If you send photos and videos, check whether your smartphone works via WiFi and not 3G/4G. Otherwise it will be at the expense of your call and internet bundle.
For example, if you want to send a photo with a message:
• Click on the desired group.
• Optionally, enter a message in the text box below.
• Click on the paper clip at the top right.
You can now choose from several attachments for your message:
Photos and videos: photo and video files
Camera: instant recording with your webcam
Document: document files such as a Word document
Contact: a contact from your contact list that you want to share
• Click the top Photos & Videos icon.
• Go to the folder with the photos.
• Click on the picture. You can select multiple photos at the same time by holding down the Ctrl key and then clicking on the desired photos.
• Click Open.
You see a preview of the photo(s). If necessary, adjust the caption or add one. At the bottom are the thumbnails of the photos. To add a caption to another photo, click on the corresponding thumbnail.
If you prefer not to send a certain photo, hold the mouse pointer on the thumbnail and click on the cross. With Add file you can send even more photos or videos.
When you’re ready to send your message with photo(s):
• Click on the green button with the arrow.
Working with messages
Sending messages with WhatsApp on the PC has the advantage that you can use your mouse. This often makes operation easier than with a finger on the small screen of a smartphone. You notice this, for example, if you want to do something with the messages in a group.
Here’s how to see the options for a posted message in a group:
• Hold the mouse pointer over the message.
• Click the down arrow at the top right of the message.
You will see a message menu with several options.
Respond directly to a message
You can respond directly to a specific message via the message menu. This is useful if all kinds of messages have been posted in the group. Especially by different people. You can then just post a message, but it is not always clear what you are responding to. Responding directly to the message makes that clear:
• Click Reply in the message menu.
• Type your message.
• Click the arrow to the right of the text box.
The message is posted and you can see to which message this is a response.
Delete a message
Sometimes you want to delete a post you’ve previously posted. That’s no problem:
• Hold the mouse pointer over the message.
• Click the down arrow at the top right of the message.
• In the message menu, click Delete message.
• Indicate whether you want to delete the message only for yourself or for everyone. The latter is only possible if you have posted the message yourself.
