Ozempic and burned private parts: “It was as if I had exposed myself to the sun”
Suffering from type 2 diabetes, Dr. Maria E. Rosas had been taking metformin to regulate her blood sugar levels for more than 20 years. But a change in treatment was decided in the spring because it was causing gastrointestinal problems.
“The main reason I started takingOzempic in April 2023 was that it was only an injection once a week, and I was tired of taking a lot of medicine twice a day for so long”she writes in the American magazine.
The Texan confides that she was initially rather delighted to see her medication intake drop drastically thanks to this weekly injection. Other satisfaction: his glucose level was excellent from the first week. However, she quickly saw worrying side effects appear.
“But immediately afterwards, I noticed intense, burning pain in my back, shoulders and arms. I was in excruciating pain. I had covid before this, so I thought it was post-Covid neuropathic pain.”confides the diabetic. But his state of health worsened until August when the burning sensation reached his genitals as well as his buttocks.
After going to the toilet, she then noticed the presence of pieces of skin on the toilet seat as well as the used toilet paper.
“I checked, and my genitals, anus and buttocks were badly burned, some areas had charred skin. It was like I had been out in the sun for days.”she remembers.
Side effect ofOzempic : “It still hurts when I have to urinate“
Faced with this very worrying discovery, Dr. Maria E. Rosas called her doctor immediately.
“He immediately told me to stopOzempicand he told me that may have caused this problem, because one of the less discussed side effects is rash, itching, or hives.”.
The scientist therefore stopped her treatment. If its parts intimates affected have started to heal, she is not completely recovered.
“It still hurts when I have to urinate or defecate, and it often starts to peel again because of the friction.”she confides. Furthermore, the burning sensation in the back is still present although it is less severe now.
To treat her type 2 diabetes, she entrusts now follows a very strict diet and is not taking any medication at the moment. “But that will change in a few weeks. I want to get well before starting again with any medication, and due to the strict diet my glucose levels are fortunately under control.”she explains in the magazine.
Maria E. Rosas, who reported complications encountered with the treatment to the laboratory and American health authorities, calls for caution. “It was very good for my glucose levels, but I still don’t recommend using theOzempic because it has too many side effects that worried me and my family”she concludes.
