Gut bacteria appears to be antibiotic resistant
An infection with the EHEC bacteria can have life-threatening consequences. How is infection treated?
People who have a EHEC contamination have generally recovered in five to ten days without treatment. However, people with reduced resistance, children and seniors are more at risk due to an infection and will be treated.
Resistant to antibiotics
There is no vaccine available against EHEC infection. Treatment with antibiotics has so far not shown any effect. The bacterium is extremely aggressive and resistant against many species antibiotics. In fact, some types of antibiotics can increase the risk of complications such as HUS. At the moment, therefore, only the symptoms of the infection treated: dehydration is attempted by diarrhea by balancing the moisture and salt balance and treats any high bloodpressure.
