The Minister of Health has announced the opening of a vaccinodrome in Île-de-France and will mobilize “additional arms” to inject doses of the monkeypox vaccine.
- Since the beginning of May, monkeypox has affected 16,836 people in 74 countries.
- On July 23, the WHO triggered the highest level of alert to try to contain the increase in contamination.
- The European Commission said it had ordered 54,530 additional doses of the vaccine against this infectious disease.
Over the weeks, the number of French people with monkeypox increases. As of July 21, 1,567 confirmed cases have been recorded in France. To fight against this infectious disease, the High Authority for Health (HAS) has specified its vaccination strategy in an opinion published on July 7. She recommended administering a dose of the vaccine, manufactured by the Danish laboratory Bavarian Nordic, to first-timers, i.e. to people who had been vaccinated against smallpox in childhood, and to children.
The opening of a vaccination center in Paris
Four days after this advisory, the vaccination was opened to men who have sex with men and multi-partner trans people, people who engage in prostitution as well as people working in places of sexual consumption.
For the past two weeks, vaccination has continued but at a slow pace. This is why the Minister of Health, François Braun, announced on July 25 that a specific vaccination center was going to open in Île-de-France, more precisely in the capital. “Tomorrow, in Paris, opens a center which will be able to very significantly increase the volume of vaccinations”, he specified to BFM TV.
“Extra arms” to vaccinate
François Braun at the same time indicated that medical students will soon be able to vaccinate the French against monkey pox. This will be possible after the publication of a decree in the Official Journal, on July 26, which will detail the terms of the project. “We have the doses, now we need the arms to vaccinate. (…) To date, more than a hundred vaccination centers are in place, more than 42,000 doses have been destocked, more than 6,000 people have received this vaccination preventive”, added the minister.
