Being narcissistic can have a negative impact on a man’s sex life.
- Narcissistic men show a greater auto-erotic orientation.
- Their sexual arousal is determined more by situational factors than by stable internal factors.
“Narcissism has long been linked to decreased overall sexual and relationship satisfaction, but this association has not been studied in the broader context of sexual function/dysfunction,” said Hungarian and American researchers. To examine the links between sexual narcissism, sexual function or dysfunction, and overall sexual and relationship satisfaction, scientists conducted a study, the results of which were published in the journal Sexual and Relationship Therapy.
sexual disorders
In order to carry out the work, they recruited 1,297 men. All participants were asked to complete an online survey about their sexual life and health, sexual function and dysfunction, and narcissism. According to the authors, there were significant differences on various sexual parameters between narcissistic men and those who did not have this character trait.
According to the results, higher sexual narcissism was significantly associated with various symptoms of sexual disorders, including a propensity for delayed ejaculatory response when the relationship lasts for a long time. Men who exhibited high sexual narcissism were more prone to premature ejaculation early in a relationship. They also had more difficulty reaching orgasm during sex. Both of these disorders can affect the sexual relationships of narcissistic men, the researchers said.
“Self Pleasure”
“Narcissist men are strongly focused on self-pleasure and derive sexual gratification more from orgasm than from relationship interactions. (…) Despite the link between sexual narcissism and sexual disorders, scores for sexual narcissism and sexual function/dysfunction also independently predicted sexual satisfaction and overall relationship satisfaction.” can we read in the study.
