Emma Yang is not just a computer whiz. She is also a 14-year-old girl with a heart on her sleeve. Very close to her grandmother, she decided to come to her aid in order to help her live better with the Alzheimer’s diseasediagnosed when Emma was 7 years old. The ravages of the disease on Memorymarked her childhood memories: “I saw up close how this disease could affect not only the person who suffers from it, but also those around him – his friends, his family”, she tells the site Mashable. To best help her grandmother, she put her coding skills to work developing an application that could make life easier for all Alzheimer’s patients. Timeless is the project that should see the light of day if Emma Yang raises enough funds, particularly on the crowdfunding platform.
Facial recognition
Timeless allows users with Alzheimer’s to stay close to those around them by helping them remember their faces. Facial recognition will work by going to draw from the photos of the telephone directory for example and by recalling the links which unite the person whose face is displayed on the screen with the user. The application can also serve as a “silly reminder” by reminding you of appointments with photos of the people concerned.
A start-up based in Miami, Florida has expressed interest in designing the artificial intelligence needed to make Emma Yang’s project a reality. Timeless could see the light of day by the end of the year.
