After suffering fromanorexia for more than two years, Nina Commons, a 19-year-old Briton, decided to use her experience to help people suffering from eating disorders. Now in good health, she recently launched a website called “Letters with Wings”, on which she supports sick people through letters and drawings.
Each letter is personalized
“I want to use my battle with anorexia to help those who are suffering, to show them that they are not alone,” Nina Commons explains to Newsbeat. On her site, the young woman asks for several details to be able to personalize each letter as well as possible: “tell me your background, your interests, your passions, what helps you to relax, your relationship with anorexia, how you feel etc. Let yourself go, I like to read”. Even if the exchange is only done by email or letter for the moment, Nina adds that she is open to the idea of making these meetings a reality.
In the UK, more than 1.6 million people are affected by eating disorders, including anorexia. For several years, more and more women have been sharing their fight against this disease on social networks.
