Using vibrators regularly would have many virtues on women’s health. Now, researchers recommend that they be prescribed medically.
- 36% of French women have already masturbated alone with a sex toy in the last 12 months.
- 13% of women in a couple and 15% of singles masturbate at least once a week.
In 2017, three in four women, or 74%, admitted to having masturbated in their lifetime, compared to 60% in 2006, 42% in 1992 and barely 19% in 1970, according to an Ifop survey on female masturbation. The practice is becoming widespread, because beyond sexual pleasure, it would also have many benefits for women’s health. “Masturbation allows you to better know your body and how it works, especially for women”explains Dr. Claire Lewandowski.
Using a vibrator would be good for your health
Researchers have just published a study in the scientific journal The Journal of Urology on the health impact of this practice. They conclude that the use of a vibrator should even be prescribed by doctors. To carry out their work, they started from the principle that the regular practice of masturbation with a vibrator could have positive effects on health, both physical and mental. They then consulted all the scientific work published on this subject, i.e. 558 articles available in the literature, which they reduced to 21.
According to their findings, masturbating with a vibrator would improve the sexual health of women in general, strengthen their pelvic muscles, that is to say the group of muscles that is located at the base of the pelvis, reduce the symptoms of incontinence and vulvar pain in women with chronic pain in the vulva and around the vagina.
Less time to reach orgasm with a sex toy
Another observation of the authors: using a vibrator would reduce the time needed to reach orgasm and could also allow women to have several. Thus, researchers believe that masturbation with a vibrator should be encouraged by the medical profession by not seeing them simply as sex toys but also as therapeutic devices.
