Going to see a psychologist, a psychiatrist or a psychoanalyst is no longer taboo. A Mediaprism study carried out among 1,064 French people reveals that 33% of respondents have already seen a “shrink”. And the vast majority of French people who have experienced it say they were satisfied with it. 92% of regular patients who commit to long therapy even say that this investment is beneficial to them.
Another lesson from the survey is that more women consult than men. They would be 40% to have done it or at least to express it. Because if the time when we hid to make an appointment with a personal development specialist is long gone, recognizing that we are “being followed” can still be difficult to admit.
Consultation with the shrink has become more democratic. Sign of the evolution of mentalities, 31% of respondents believe that everyone should see one once in their life.
A profitable approach
There are multiple reasons why one may feel the need to see these specialists. No need to suffer from a mental illness. Therapeutic help can be welcome to find meaning in one’s life, treat depressionregain self-confidence orself esteemovercome personal trauma or simply advance in self-knowledge.
