The fact that the coronavirus is slowly leaving the world does not mean that all its problems have been solved. For example, the global chip shortage is expected to be far from over.
The times of severe lockdowns and other nonsense are now slowly becoming a thing of the past. That’s great, then we can do some more. However, all the problems created by the coronavirus are far from over. One that still holds the tech world in its grip: the chip shortage.
Chip shortage will take a while
Thanks to closed factories and other nonsense, the demand for the latest generation of powerful chips (including processors) is enormous, exceeding the current production capacity. Everything that has to do with computers suffers from it. Hell for manufacturers who are now faced with huge waiting times for both customers and themselves. Is there light on the horizon? Yes and no. The CEO of Intel makes a prediction and even though he predicts the end, it will take some time.
2024
According to Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, the chip shortage will last until 2024. Now that things have to get back on track, all overdue demand must of course be made up. In order to keep up with that demand, together with the delivery of new products, we have to work harder. And that will be difficult. The extra advanced technology to make more chips is difficult to get going.
So we are still suffering from the chip shortage. A lot of technology will therefore either become very expensive or suffer from long waiting times. (through CNBC†
