At a time when France is deconfining, the question of returning to the office arises for many employees. Even if the employer allows it, staying 100% teleworking is not necessarily good for your health.
- In France, psychosocial risks refer to the category of risks to mental, physical and social health caused by employment conditions.
- Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) cover a wide range of disorders of the musculoskeletal system, which can be caused or aggravated by professional activity.
One out of two human resources directors (HRD) found that the telework imposed during the confinements was harmful to the health of the employees. This is what emerges from the employee health prevention barometer carried out by Ifop for Back Office Health with 605 HR decision-makers (including 64 HRDs) working in a company with more than 20 employees.
Psychosocial risks and musculoskeletal disorders
45% of HR managers consider the impact of telework on employee health to be negative. Also, those who have observed an upsurge in psychosocial risks (PSR) and musculoskeletal problems (MSDs) are more likely to underline the negative impact of telework on the health of employees (67% in companies with an increase in MSDs, 54% for those who have reported increases in PSR).
“The isolation added to the fears around the Covid and the concerns about the sustainability of their employment weaken the psychological health of the employees. We also know that for many the inadequate postures due to the lack of equipment adapted to the house (external screen, armchair , keyboard) as well as a greater sedentary lifestyle caused an increase in musculo-articular pain, in particular back pain”, comments Nicolas Destang, chiropractor and Associate Director of Back Office Santé.
The administration sector most affected
An even more pronounced increase in psychosocial risks is observed in companies with 250 to 499 employees (65%) and in the administration sector (58%).
