This new drug would shorten the consolidation time, especially for hip, skull or knee fractures.
For people who have suffered fractures, the healing process usually takes 20 to 30 days. This period could soon be shortened thanks to researchers at Purdue University (United States). They have discovered a new injectable drug, which should start clinical trials soon, which aims to heal broken bones faster and strengthen weak ones.
This new injectable drug will be used to treat bone fractures in adults over 60 when the healing process slows due to aging. Older adults with a hip fracture usually die within a year. With this new injectable drug, delayed healing could become history.
More than 200 clinical trials
The new drug, named NOV004, discovered by university researchers in collaboration with Novosteo, can help form new bone tissue at the fracture site while reducing exposure to the rest of the body.
“We have worked on amazing science with people truly dedicated to making a difference in reducing mortality and improving the quality of life for our aging population. We have completed pre-clinical studies with NOV004 and plan to submit it to clinical trials later this year”, says Scott Salka, CEO of Novosteo.
For the time being, 228 clinical trials spread over more than 4,000 sites throughout the world are carried out on the NOV004. According to Scott Salka, once the trials are completed, the drug could end up in the hands of doctors and patients.
The use of NOV004 would not stop at bone fractures: the new drug could also be used for dental implants, facial and skull fractures, as well as in hip and hip replacement surgeries. knee.
