Until now, if you were in contact with someone who had contracted Covid-19, you only had to wait to see if the symptoms appeared, and take a test after 7 days. There may be a new option, a preventive medicine to reduce the risk of developing the disease to those exposed. Pfizer has just launched a large-scale clinical trial in this direction, reveals an AFP dispatch taken up by 20 Minutes.
The trial will bring together 2,600 people (aged 18 minimum), some of whom will take a tablet to swallow with water, which is called PF-07321332twice a day for 5 to 10 days, to see if the molecule can fight against the coronavirus.
Block the development of the virus
The purpose of this medicine is to block the replication cycle of the virus in the body, it can therefore be used for a person who has already contracted it in order to mitigate its effects, or for an exposed person to help protect against it. This type of treatment is called an antiviral. It would not aim to replace the vaccine, said the laboratory, but rather to complement it.
Several such attempts are currently underway. A participatory project has just been launched via Twitter, called Covid Moonshot. It brings together 150 scientists from around the world. As pointed out an article from the newspaper Le Temps17,000 drugs are on the list to be tested, 1,400 are already under study.
