Anthony Fauci, director of the Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in the United States has just declared on ABC news that the southern states of the United States, and more particularly Texas and Louisiana, should expect to face a surge in indigenous cases Zika virus. A situation all the more likely since Louisiana, which has just experienced flooding, is now covered in stagnant water which attracts tiger mosquitoes.
The Zika virus has already started to spread across florida, especially in the Miami Beach area and health authorities have already recorded 36 indigenous cases. The State’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended that all Florida residents increase their efforts to protect themselves from mosquito bites and advised all pregnant women to “postpone all travel in the Miami County area”.
Remember that the Zika virus is responsible for many cases of microcephaly in infants and Guillain Barre syndrome, a neurological disease that causes paralysis of the limbs. It would also be the cause of cases inflammation of the brain and meninges in adults.
