Cannabis with a high concentration of THC triggers psychoses, a drug against postpartum depression is going to be marketed and the noise which seriously harms the health of Ile-de-France residents: here is the news of the day.
THC: highly concentrated cannabis is responsible for new cases of mental disorders
Recently, British researchers from King’s College London found that cannabis was increasingly concentrated in THC. THC, or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, refers to the psychoactive potency of cannabis, which gets users “high”. However, another British study, also carried out by researchers from King’s College London, estimates that the regular consumption of cannabis highly concentrated in THC would be responsible for cases of mental disorders, such as psychosis (risk multiplied by 3 if it is cannabis and by 5 if it is a synthetic cannabinoid). The results of this study are published in the journal The Lancet Psychiatry.Learn more here.
A drug against postpartum depression will be marketed
The American drug administration (FDA) validated on Tuesday March 19 the marketing of a new drug against postpartum depression, a serious mental illness from which some mothers suffer after giving birth. Called brexanolone (Zulresso brand, Sage Therapeutics laboratory), the drug acts in two days, much faster than traditional antidepressants. But it entails a significant risk of fainting, and must therefore be administered intravenously in the hospital, under medical supervision, for sixty hours. More info in our article.
Noise pollution: noise causes Ile-de-France residents to lose 11 years of healthy life
Noise from cars, planes or trains passing near homes… If you live in Île-de-France near a road with heavy traffic, railways or an airport, you may not pay even more attention to it. However, these repeated and daily noise nuisances have a direct impact on the health of the inhabitants who experience them.
