71% of men surveyed believe that there is no problem for a man to become a father between the ages of 36 and 40.
- There are currently more than 740,000 deliveries per year in France, which corresponds to a fertility rate of 1.71 children per woman.
- This figure places our country above the European average.
According to a new You Gove poll, almost half of British men think a woman aged 36 to 40 is “too old” to have a baby. A third (35%) of women agree with this estimate. On the other hand, 71% of these gentlemen (and 84% of women) believe that there is no problem for a man to become a father in this same age group.
Lots of reactions on social media
It should be noted that the answers vary greatly according to the age of the respondents. Those ofe 25 to 44 year olds say that the ideal age to have their first child is around 30, while those over 55 think that a woman should have her first child at 25 (the average for the year 1967, Editor’s note).
The survey caused a lot of reaction from women on social networks, with some posting testimonies of pregnancies after 35 years that went very well. In France, in 2020, women had their first child on average at 31 years old (30.8 years old, according to INSEE), a figure that is constantly increasing. About 5% of pregnancies concern women over 40 in France, twice as many as 20 years ago.
Naomi Campbell, mother at 51
MAP techniques in particular push back the field of possibilities, as demonstrated by the model Naomi Campbell, who became a mother last May for the first time four days before her 51st birthday.
