The investigation of birth control pills of third and fourth generations was dismissed by the Paris prosecutor’s office. It “does not allow to establish with certainty the existence of a causal link between the taking of the contraceptive and the pathologies presented by the complainants”, specified a source close to the file, relayed by The world and AFP. Some pills had indeed been accused of promoting serious venous and arterial pathologies (pulmonary embolism, stroke…).
130 complaints in 2012
At the origin of this preliminary investigation opened in 2012 in particular for “involuntary attack on the integrity of the person”, the complaint of Marion Larat, become severely disabled following a stroke which she attributes to Meliane, her pill third generation. After her, 130 complaints against 29 brands of pills produced by eight different laboratories had been centralized at the public health center.
The decision of the Paris prosecutor’s office, which comes four and a half years later, leaves the plaintiffs and their lawyer Jean-Christophe Coubris in the dark. The lawyer, who had brought 84 complaints to justice, finds the arguments of the Paris prosecutor’s office “fragile and quite weak”. But three of the victims do not intend to stop there: they filed a complaint with a civil party on Tuesday, September 19. The goal? Obtain the appointment of an investigating judge to continue the investigation.
