A 23-year-old student from Idrac business school in Montpellier was found lifeless at his home on Thursday, May 3. He would have suffered from headaches the day before and would have tried to make it pass into classic self-medication. Suspecting a meningitis, an investigation had been opened and the results of the analyzes confirmed the first hypothesis.
Family and relatives were put on treatment
It is an infectious inflammation of the meninges, the membranes surrounding the brain. This pathology is very contagious during prolonged contact with the patient: sneezing, kissing, etc. “The health monitoring teams of ARS Occitanie and the management of the business school concerned have identified and contacted around thirty people in contact with this young man, so that they can benefit from preventive antibiotic treatment”, explain the services of the Regional Health Agency (ARS). “These are the family and relatives who had been in close, close and repeated contact during the ten days preceding his illness”. An eventual vaccination could be predicted as soon as the meningococcus is precisely determined (A, B, C, W or Y).
As the germ is very fragile in the environment, there is no need to disinfect school premises, nor to treat people who have had occasional contact with the sick person. The ARS Occitanie medical teams remain at the disposal of the persons concerned on 0 800 301 301.
