Smartphones are becoming more and more unitary. But not this smartphone that feels like paper. Why? Read that here.
We are talking about a Realme, the sister brand of Oppo and OnePlus. It was only a matter of time before anyone other than Fairphone made a sustainability-themed smartphone. Realme has announced that the upcoming flagship GT 2 Pro will have an eco-friendly bio-polymer material on the back. Apparently a first in the mobile industry. The company has collaborated with design icon Naoto Fukasawa from the Muji and Infobar series. They call this ‘Paper Tech Master Design’.
Paper smartphone
The material, namely bio-polymer material, is supplied by SABIC of Saudi Arabia. It is based on paper pulp and has obtained an International Sustainability and Carbon Certification to prove its environmental friendliness. The Realme GT 2 Pro’s packaging also uses far less plastic than its predecessor – from an overall plastic ratio of 21.7 percent to just 0.3 percent. And that’s always a good thing.
The Realme smartphone itself also has some surprises. First off, it’s one of the first devices to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, following in the footsteps of the Moto Edge X30. The GT 2 Pro is also the world’s first smartphone with a 150-degree ultra-wide camera (most are around 120 degrees), which offers a unique fisheye camera mode for fun photography.
Launch
For now, the Realme GT 2 Pro is only slated to launch in China on January 4, 2022. But a company spokesperson has confirmed it will eventually go to the abroad will go. Given the brand’s track record, this device will likely be competitively priced. Whether you can also write on it yourself is unknown.
