The AFM-Telethon has published the figures of its last fundraising. Result: nearly 93 million euros in donations collected in 2014. An exceptional figure due to strong mobilization in the field but also on television.
The 2014 edition was a real success for the Telethon. In total, therefore, 92,920,108 euros were collected, an increase of 4% compared to the 2013 edition. The “festive program in a spectacular setting at the foot of the Eiffel Tower” allowed France Télévisions, partner of the operation, to achieve its best audience compared to the five previous editions of the Telethon. A record audience which resulted in an increase in donations.
Thus, more than 52 million euros were collected on the Internet, where the AFM notes an increase in donations of 9%, and via the call center of 3637. The activities in the field have enabled them to garner 37 , 5 million euros. The various partners of the operation have participated to the tune of 3 million euros.
The AFM is pleased with these results which “reflect a triple success of collection, audience and mobilization”.
Challenges ahead
For the association, this triple success is “essential for families and researchers to sign new victories in their fight against rare diseases”. Thus, she explains that these donations will be used first of all to start a new therapeutic and innovative trial in the fight against Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a neuromuscular disease that only affects boys.
Besides this, the funds raised will also be used to finance a new trial against Crigler Najjar disease, a rare liver disease. Stem cell studies will also be able to see the light of day thanks to these donations. Finally, a pediatric clinical center dedicated to therapeutic trials on children with neuromuscular diseases will open in 2015 at the Trousseau hospital.
The 2015 edition of the Telethon will take place on December 4 and 5.
