The “Village” is a retirement home like no other. Designed as a traditional village, it will welcome, from the end of 2019, people stricken by Alzheimer’s disease in a warm and human environment.
An old-fashioned village for patients with Alzheimer’s disease
In France, support for the aging of the population will not be done without special attention paid to people affected by Alzheimer’s disease. They are about a million in France and in the Landes, near Dax, 120 of them will soon be accommodated in a very innovative structure.
Called “Village”, this structure is none other than the perfect reconstruction of a traditional village. Designed around a central square, it will consist of many homes, but also a hairdresser, a library or even a brasserie and a mini-market. Nothing will be left to chance so that future patients feel comfortable in this familiar environment.
The “Village” will open its doors at the end of 2019
But if this reconstituted village will aim to serve as a place of reception for people who can no longer live at home, having lost their autonomy, it will also be a research center on Alzheimer’s disease. ” The village integrates a research center which will carry out a comparative study with traditional establishments, of the impact of new therapeutic approaches on patients, caregivers and caregivers. », Explains Professor Jean-François Dartigues, neurologist in Bordeaux, for The world.
The construction of this center, initiated following an idea by former minister Henri Emmanuelli and supported by the Departmental Council and the Regional Health Agency (ARS), began on Monday, June 4. It should welcome its first residents at the end of 2019.
