Roubaix police officers complain of recurring headaches. This state would be due to the massive storage of cannabis seized on their premises. During tests, three of them were even screened positive!
Are the police officers of Roubaix (North) victims of passive cannabis? In any case, this is the story told this Tuesday by some agents of the Roubaix police station. The latter are indeed pushing a rant in the media against the accumulation of cannabis stocks on their premises. This storage would, according to them, have funny effects on their health.
Headache, dizziness …
Questioned by France 3 Nord-Pas-de-Calais, Fabrice Danel, departmental secretary of the UNITÉ SGP union is the spokesperson for this protest. He mentions the enormous quantities of cannabis stored in the premises of this northern police station: “40 kilos of course, but we know that there is much more,” he said. And this massive storage is not without consequences for the health of officials. This policeman says that some policemen are often victims of headaches. Three of them even tested positive for cannabis, he adds.
Contacted by the editorial staff of why actor, the Dr Laurent Karila, addictologist at Paul Brousse hospital (Paris), explains that this is “rare” but “possible”. “It can happen when a person is in a very confined space and there is a lot of cannabis. By inhaling these strong smells, the smell of cannabis can make a person test positive. In addition, this doctor confirms that the smells of cannabis resin can lead to headaches, and in some cases even dizziness.
Proof of this contamination, Fabrice Danel recounts scenes where some police officers staggered out of the sealed room of the Roubaix police station.
Listen to Dr Laurent Karila, addictologist at Paul Brousse hospital (Paris): “ There really has to be a lot, a lot of cannabis. But passive inhalation can lead to headaches… “
A lack of staff within the courthouse
And for those who wonder if such a situation can even lead to a “high”, Dr. Laurent Karila is clear. “This is unlikely, when people evoke having been taken with cannabis just by smelling resin, we are more in a placebo effect. ”
Be that as it may, the Roubaix police officers do not have to endure these inconveniences for long. They therefore appeal directly to the director of the registry of the Lille courthouse responsible for managing these drug seizures. On the judicial side, the authority evokes a staffing problem within the Lille registry.
To exert pressure, some union police officers launched the threat of a possible right of withdrawal.
