The use of the headset is one of the good behaviors recommended by the French authorities to reduce exposure to radiofrequency waves emitted by mobile phones. the National Frequency Agency (ANFR) has therefore tested different types of headsets, including 2 wired and 4 using Bluetooth technology, setting them to the maximum, in order to confirm the benefit of using them.
A total of 920 SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) measurements were carried out on these 6 headsets, which reduce the level of exposure of the human body, and more particularly of the head, to electromagnetic fields induced by the use of telephones. Remember that the SAR makes it possible to quantify the energy transported by electromagnetic waves and absorbed by the human body.
The results of this study show that by using headsets, exposure to SAR is on average 9 times lower in the head and 12 times lower in the limbs than by using a mobile phone against the ear. The researchers add that:
- In 99% of cases, headsets worn on the head have a SAR more than 19 times lower than the regulatory head SAR threshold
- In 99% of cases, headsets in contact with a member have a SAR more than 21 times lower than the regulatory member SAR threshold
- The SAR of wired kits is lower than the SAR of wireless kits.
The authors also emphasize that the equipment measured was placed in a “worst case” situation, that is to say at maximum power throughout the duration of the measurement, which is rarely the situation encountered in conventional use.
