The health authorities announce the recall of a baby milk powder, brand Gallia, in a 400 gram box, and intended for premature babies.
- A baby is considered premature if it is born before 8.5 months of pregnancy, or 37 weeks of amenorrhea.
- Between 50,000 and 60,000 children are born prematurely each year according to the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm).
2023.07.13 is the batch number of infant milk now considered dangerous. It is a box of 400 grams of powdered milk for premature or low birth weight infants, called “Bébé Expert Pré-Gallia”. This Saturday, health authorities announced the recall of this Gallia brand product, sold mainly in pharmacies since February 2, 2022.
A risk of infection with Gallia baby milk
According to the website ReminderConso, there would be a risk of infection, without further details for the moment. Thus, the health authorities have ordered a recall of this product “as a precautionary measure and pending the results of investigations carried out by the health authorities in 2 health establishments in Réunion and Mayotte, recall for suspicion of bacteriological contamination.”
“Parents whose children have consumed this batch of the product mentioned above and who show symptoms are invited to consult their doctor as a precaution.”, can we read on the product’s recall card. For the moment, it is the only product of the brand to be concerned. “No other reference of infant milk (powder or liquid) from Laboratoire Gallia and Blédina is concerned by this recall.”
Powdered milks have already been at the heart of contaminations
This is not the first time an infant formula has been recalled. In 2017-2018, there was the crisis of Lactalis baby products infected with salmonella. The company had to stop production at the Craon factory in December 2017 and recalled all infant milk production from this factory. Several weeks after consuming this milk, babies were still sick.
More recently, in 2022, these are baby jars which have been recalled due to the presence of potentially harmful nitrates. More specifically, it involved organic green bean purees and green bean/potato purees marketed throughout France by Auchan, Carrefour, E.Leclerc (benchmark brand), Cora and Casino under distributor brands.
The most important thing is to pay attention to the child’s symptoms and tell their GP if something is wrong.
