This 29-year-old is doing well after Facebook made him rich. Afterwards he did not sit still and now the war makes him richer than rich.
We’re talking about VR prodigy Palmer Luckey here. He previously sold his virtual reality startup in 2014 Oculus VR for $2 billion to Facebook. Now he is the boss of a new company called Anduril. This company develops defense technology and it is currently very popular.
29 year old is rich, gets richer through war
His $8 billion defense technology start-up, Anduril, is arming Ukraine and building the weapons of the future — before the Pentagon even knows they want it. At the moment, for example, he sells the watchtowers full of technology to spot immigrants on the US-Mexico border.
The self-taught tech prodigy – turning 30 in September – transitions from a whiz kid to a ‘whizzman’. He often jokes this himself. He urges his engineers to demonstrate why investors plan to pump another $1 billion into Anduril, for a total of $1.8 billion raised since 2017. Luckey currently owns at least 11% of the company. brings current assets to an estimated $1.4 billion.
Defense is booming
Due to the war in Europe, defense is booming. Germany, for example, puts a good 100 billion euros into their defense apparatus. Luckey provides modern technology in many areas, for example for detecting and destroying drones.
Eight years ago, he won tons of awards as a puppy-like teenage prodigy who pioneered virtual reality. But three years after being sold to Mark Zuckerberg, he was fired by Facebook out of anger over his support of Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election. He started this defense startup and apparently it was a good move.
