No itching with these smart tips
The best known vaginal yeast infection is candida infection. An annoying disturbance of the natural balance in the vagina. This should not be confused with Candida Syndrome.
If you have a vaginal yeast infection, you are definitely not alone. As many as 75 percent of women experience it at some point. It is often caused by a yeast: Candida Albicans. This occurs naturally on the skin, in the intestines, vagina and mouth. Normally this does not cause any problems. But when the natural predominance is disturbed, such a yeast can dominate.
Itching and pain
You can recognize such an infection by various signals. You will experience itching, crumbly, white vaginal discharge. The mucous membrane of the vagina will swell. This can cause pain when urinating and having sex. This infection is often easy to recognize for the doctor. But sometimes discharge will have to be examined.
Disruption
Any healthy woman can get a yeast infection. However, there are several factors that influence it:
- Hormones. You are more likely to get it during pregnancy or around menstruation.
- Diabetes. It seems to be more common in women with diabetes mellitus.
- Medicines and antibiotics can also disrupt the natural balance of the vagina.
- Stress and poor resistance also increase the risk of infection.
- Thorough washing with soap irritates the mucous membranes of the vagina.
Innocent but awkward
A yeast infection is not something to worry about. It usually goes away on its own. With small adjustments, the balance will restore itself. Wash your labia with lukewarm water. You do not have to wash the internal vagina, it cleans itself.
Change your tampons on time. And wipe yourself after going to the toilet from front to back. Your partner may also experience itching or rash. He doesn’t have to do anything about this, this too will pass by itself. But be careful not to get infected again by your partner.
The itching and discharge can last for a few weeks and be very uncomfortable. Tablets and ointment are available at drugstores and pharmacies. If candida comes back more often, for example every month, you can be given medicines that can reduce the chance of this.
Candida syndrome
Alternative practitioners often talk about candida syndrome. This causes all kinds of complaints: headaches, intestinal complaints and depression. The cause lies in some foods. They cause a candida infection in the intestines.
To remedy this, a strict anti-candida diet must be followed. No more sugar can be eaten and no food products that contain molds or yeasts: for example mushrooms, cheese, beer and bread.
The candida syndrome has never been scientifically proven. And the diet makes you miss out on important foods. This can cause complaints instead of remedy. Doctors from the regular circuit and the Maag Lever Bowel Foundation do not recognize this syndrome.
