On the eve of deconfinement, two new “clusters” were declared in Dordogne and Vienne. Nearly twenty people tested positive for Covid-19 in the two regions.
- Two new epidemic foci have declared themselves in departments classified as “green”
- In Vienne, the cases of contamination concern the teachers of a college for which the start of the school year has been postponed to May 27
As France prepares to begin its deconfinement phase, two new sources of Covid-19 contagion were declared this Saturday, May 9 in regions of the country located in the “green zone”, according to the map unveiled last Thursday by the government. The first occurred in Dordogne, following a funeral organized in a village of more than 500 inhabitants at the end of April.
According to information released on Saturday May 9 by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Health Agency, nine people (out of 127) tested positive for the virus, eight of whom were part of the family of the deceased. None of them has a serious form of the disease. “The situation was brought under control in less than a week thanks to the responsiveness of the health actors”, assured during a press conference the director general of ARS Nouvelle-Aquitaine Michel Laforcade.
The second cluster was declared in Vienne, after a meeting of teachers from a college of 800 students in Chauvigny, in order to prepare for the return to school scheduled for May 18. On Thursday, four staff members tested positive for Covid-19. According to the rectorate of Poitiers, nine other individuals – including members of management and the local authority – were placed in quarantine this Saturday. The start of the school year has been postponed to May 27.
80 deaths linked to Covid-19 in 24 hours
The director of ARS Nouvelle-Aquitaine reiterated his call for “citizen responsibility to ensure the strictest respect for barrier gestures”. “Above all, in the minds of certain people, this deconfinement should not lead to a relaxation”, insists Michel Laforcade.
According to a statement released on Saturday May 9 by the General Directorate of Health, the Covid-19 epidemic killed 80 additional people in 24 hours in France, the lowest daily toll since the beginning of April, bringing the total number of deaths to 26,310 since March 1. Only four deaths were recorded in medico-social establishments and Ehpad, as well as 76 in hospitals.
