A rare Citroën 2CV Sahara, a twin-engine model with all-wheel drive, will be auctioned on March 27, 2022 in Paris. Found after years of storage, it has covered just over 28,000 km since leaving the factory.
The record for the most expensive collector’s Citroën 2CV dates back to 2016, whena 1961 “barn find” Sahara version with just over 11,000 km on the odometer went for €172,840. But since then, the price of the “Deuche” has not stopped climbing, now well over €100,000 for much less rare variants provided they are in exceptional condition, and offered at prestigious auctions. . A new Sahara found after years of storage in the shelter is about to be put up for sale; the bids could soar.
A rare and atypical 2CV 4×4
Inspired by the modified 2CV of a Norman industrialist, the Sahara was marketed by Citroën in 1960 and was then intended mainly for oil companies which explored the deserts in search of deposits, hence its name. It has a symmetrical twin-engine configuration: in its boot is housed a 425 cc twin-cylinder similar to the one found under the front bonnet, to drive the rear axle. The single clutch pedal and gear lever act on both transmissions through split controls. This 2 CV with four drive wheels offers a total power of 26 hp and certain crossing capacities. It is recognizable by its modified bodywork (air vents, trunk, spare wheel on the front bonnet). Beyond these attributes, the rarity of this model greatly contributes to its value. Only 694 copies were produced until its withdrawal from the catalog in 1967.

A 2th 28,000 km hand
The 2CV Sahara in question here was registered for the first time on April 8, 1965, in Cantal. Its first owner, a certain Mr. Ribier, keen on fishing, bought it to catch fish by towing his boat Rocca with his friend Mr. Mouret. The latter received the car from the widow of Mr Ribier when the latter died in 1976. He used it for a few more years before storing it in a dry place, until today.
It is therefore a second hand whose history is known. Never restored, the car requires some work but, although it has not been driven for several decades, its engines are not blocked according to its description sheet. His counter shows only 28 137 km.
It will be auctioned at the next spring car sale inAguttes at Espace Champerret in the 17th arrondissement of Paris on March 27, 2022. It is estimated between €60,000 and €100,000, amounts that seem relatively modest given the prices observed recently.
