- More than 1000 new cases were diagnosed in 24 hours
- The number of cases has indeed increased by 26% compared to last week, an increase of 66% over 3 weeks
- “4 regions (Île-de-France, Grand-Est, Hauts-de-France and Guyana) account for 71% of patients hospitalized in intensive care”
The epidemiological situation is marked by an increase in the number of cases with more than 1,000 new diagnoses in 24 hours, announced the Directorate General for Health (DGS) in its newsletter of July 23. The number of cases has indeed increased by 26% compared to last week (against +18% and +11% the previous 2 weeks), i.e. an increase of 66% over 3 weeks.
A relaxation of barrier gestures
“Taking into account the incubation period, the contagiousness before the symptomatic phase and in a carrier without symptoms, the time between the first symptoms and the triggering of the reflexes of the contact information and isolation test, chains of transmission, sometimes significant, are formedsays the Ministry of Health. Groupings or clusters are then detected. This underlying trend indicates that our recent habits have been promoting the circulation of the virus for several weeks already..
A relaxation of barrier gestures has indeed been noted by Public Health France and Health Insurance, especially during this summer period, during which proximity no longer seems appropriate. Yet, insists the DGS, “during the summer and during the holidays, it may seem artificial to greet each other while keeping your distance, to chat from afar, to wash your hands regularly and to wear a mask for the general public in enclosed spaces, but this individual effort and collective is crucial to prevent the virus from encroaching on our freedom and the epidemic from rebounding”.
570 epidemic foci in France
The virus is still circulating in France, as evidenced by the number of “clusters” (570 cases grouped including those detected in nursing homes since May 9; 10 new since Wednesday July 22, but 361 closed). According to data from the Ministry of Health, “SOS doctors carried out 336 operations for suspected Covid-19, i.e. 4.2% of total activity”. The emergency services recorded 240 visits for the same reason, or 0.7% of total activity.
Specifically, 5,957 people are currently hospitalized for an infection, including 436 patients with a severe form and placed in intensive care.. “Four regions (Île-de-France, Grand-Est, Hauts-de-France and Guyana) account for 71% of patients hospitalized in intensive care”. At the slightest symptom, it is therefore always strongly recommended “to be screened by virological test, by isolating yourself even before having an appointment and then waiting for the result”.
