The Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, announced a “vast screening operation” in nursing homes with, in particular, systematic tests from the first case to avoid contamination.
To fight against mortality due to Covid-19 in nursing homes, a massive screening operation will be carried out. Announced this Monday by the Minister of Health Olivier Véran, it “will allow positive cases to be grouped together in dedicated sectors within nursing homes to avoid contamination of other residents”, he detailed. The tests will be carried out from the first case and will make it possible to try to stem the deadly spiral which affects nursing homes and other medico-social establishments, where 2,417 deaths have officially been recorded since the start of the epidemic.
An action carried out from this Tuesday, April 7
That “extensive screening operation” follows the government’s desire to drastically increase testing capacity. “We are in the process of doubling our PCR test capacity, which allows us to launch a vast screening operation for the most vulnerable people, with priority given to the elderly, the most fragile disabled people, as well as professionals. who accompany them in establishments and at home”he said.
This operation, for which the Minister of Health did not give more details, should begin this Tuesday, April 7. Olivier Véran, however, indicated that he had spoken with Dominique Bussereau, president of the Association of French departments, who “assured of the full support of the departments to be able to carry out massive screening actions in all establishments tomorrow.”
