Whether they are called slow sugars like the doctors, or noodles like everyone else, pasta is an excellent food that must find its place in the basic diet of the family.
Today is World Pasta Day. The opportunity to talk about this food, starting by wringing the necks of two legends.
Cholesterol, heart disease: the health benefits of pasta
First, they are absolutely not fattening if consumed in normal quantities. On the other hand, we will be less friendly with what can accompany them: excess sauce, fresh cream, bacon bits or grated cheese.
Second injustice: pasta, contrary to popular belief, is not contraindicated in diets against cholesterol. There is, in fact, only 1/7th of an egg in a normal ration. Not enough to make it a forbidden dish… Quite the contrary! By reducing the secretion of fats by the liver, by participating in the reduction of cholesterol levels, they are even indicated in the diet of those who suffer from heart disease.
Weight loss: slow sugars that reduce the desire to eat fat
Pasta is low in fat and high in sugar, but beware, carbohydrates that are digested very slowly, releasing constant energy into our blood, without panicking our body like when we eat a piece of sugar. Hence their name and especially their energy interest. Another advantage, when you eat pasta, you have little or no desire to eat fatty or sweet foods. So, if you want to lose weight, don’t hesitate to favor noodles… but in reasonable quantities!
Pasta is a source of good protein
Especially since – and this is much less known – there is as much protein in this food as in eggs and almost as much as in meat and, what is more, of better quality.
During cooking, they take on water. Twice their volume. Which, especially in older people who drink little, represents a significant liquid intake.
Finally, good news for all children. The very simple dish of spaghetti that makes all mums feel guilty, is a thousand times better than steak and fries or other hamburgers… And the guarantee of a real boost of energy! Especially during exams.
