In order to better treat vulvar pain, a new diagnostic aid application will soon be available.
- The vulva refers to the external female genitalia.
- This includes the labia majora and labia minora, which surround the urinary meatus, the outer part of the clitoris and its hood, and the entrance or vestibule of the vagina.
At the start of the school year, a new application called Vulvae will be launched. Its goal: to fight against vulvar pain, which affects 10 to 15% of women – i.e. between 3 and 4 million people in France.
Diagnosis error
Pain in the vulva is due to different pathologies, such as vulvodynia, vaginismus, clitoridynia or vestibulitis. Little known, these diseases are identified after an average of 5 to 7 years of diagnostic wandering among the women concerned, who, in addition to suffering, go from doctor to doctor without obtaining answers.
“People living with these pains do not always know that they are abnormal, and above all, treatable. We have to make sure that changes!”, militates the founder of the Vulvae application, Paola Craveiro.
Pain monitoring
To combat this phenomenon, the Vulvae app will notably provide access to a “health book” entirely dedicated to vulvar health and vulvar pain. “Thanks to Vulvae, it will be possible to monitor pain and benefit from full support in the diagnostic and treatment process”, explains the head of the project, carried out in partnership with the Les Clés de Venus patient association.
The contacts of doctors specializing in vulvar pain will also be centralized via the e-health system.
