From this Monday, in addition to the flu and Covid-19, pharmacists can administer 14 new vaccines.
- Pharmacy injections will be reserved for patients over 16 years of age.
- The 2022-2023 flu vaccination campaign began on October 18, 2022.
Vaccines against papillomavirus, whooping cough, liver disease A and B… no need to go to your doctor to get vaccinated. It is now possible to do it in pharmacies.
Vaccination in pharmacies facilitates the patient journey
According to the website of the order of pharmacists“in addition to the vaccines against seasonal flu that they already administer, authorized pharmacists are authorized to administer, on medical prescription of the product, vaccines against diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis, whooping cough, human papillomaviruses, invasive infections pneumococci, hepatitis A and B viruses, meningococci of serogroups A, B, C, Y and W and against rabies”.
The purpose of this change is to relieve doctors and increase vaccination coverage for adults. They may indeed be discouraged by the wait at the doctor’s to get a prescription and come back for a shot, says France News.
In pharmacies, each vaccination will be charged 7.50 euros. A prescription is still necessary but in the coming months, if Parliament gives the green light, pharmacists will also be able to prescribe vaccines.
Both girls and boys can get vaccinated against the papillomavirus
“The most important in prescription vaccines, says Matthieu Saulnier, pharmacist, to France Info are the papillomavirus, all tetanus, whooping cough, polio booster vaccines, hepatitis boosters. These are the main ones that we see on a daily basis”.
With regard to the vaccine against the papillomavirus (HPV), its effectiveness is now recognized. When administered before the onset of sexual life, the effectiveness of vaccination is close to 100%.
In France, it has been recommended since 2007 for all young girls. Since January 1, 2021, boys can also be vaccinated.
